A High-Performance Distributed Computing Infrastructure (P. Banerjee, A. Choudhary, S. Hauck, D. T. Lee, P. Scheuermann, M. Sarrafzadeh, V. Taylor - PANTHER Project)

In this grant from the National Science Foundation's CISE Research Infrastructure Program, we are entering our second year. Mext year, we will acquire an 8 processor SGI Origin 2000 multiprocessor, three HP C-180 workstations, and four HP B132 workstations with ATM cards. During the year, we will: (1) explore the use of high-speed networking and computing to investigate file systems and data management issues for high-performance distributed computing, (2) investigate the parallel programming support of networks of high-speed workstations and personal computers as an alternative to stand-alone parallel computers, (3) study high-performance computer-aided design of electronic systems in a heterogeneous environment, and to develop a Web-based CAD computing center, that takes advantage of high-speed networking,
