PART Project: Mesh Partitioning for Scientific Applications, NSF (V. Taylor)

In this research project, supported by a continuing NYI grant from National Science Foundation and AlliedSignal, Inc, we will develop a mesh partitioning tools that considers the static and dynamic features of the distributed system and adaptive application. Currently, we have have the initial version of PART that considers the static system and application features. We have conducted experiments with two systems located at different sites and regular finite element applications. We will conduct further experiments with irregular problems and systems at more than two sites. In addition we will compare the simulated annealing technique, currently used with PART, to other, faster heuristics. We will start the initial work to consider the dynamic features of the shared resources in the distributed system and the adaptive characteristic of the application.
