(3) Photonic Materials Research

Working with various advanced materials group at Northwestern University, we are exploring the fabrication of thin-film ferroelectric devices, including barium-titanate thin film on MgO substrate for the realization of thin-film electro-optic modulators with low switching voltages. We also perform theoretical modeling and studies of optimal thin-film based modulator structures. Another emerging research area we are pursuing is the use of transparent conducting oxides for novel photonic device applications.
