Postdoctoral Research Associate Position
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the University's Critical Research Initiative Program. A physicist with background in one or more of the following areas would be most desirable: atomic physics, laser physics, or nonlinear optics. The project involves a multi-discipinary effort among the Department of Physics, the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and the Materials Research Laboratory. We plan to fill the position by the summer of 1999, but will consider candidates who will be available up to December 1999. The Univ. of Illinois will assist the successful applicant in obtaining a J-1 visa, if appropriate.

OPTICAL ENGINEER POSITION AVAILABLE

POSITION TITLE: 	Optical Engineer - Development and Application
			Engineering for Automobile Lighting

REPORT TO WHAT POSITION: 
			Engineering Manager

SCOPE:			Moderate supervision and review: Coordinates assigned 
			technicians. Follow established and well defined 
			engineering procedures and methodologies. Performs 
			engineering, research and development, and project 
			coordination tasks that are somewhat varied and 
			difficult, but with limited responsibility for 
			evaluation, originality, or ingenuity. 
			
			Includes the knowledge of a narrow range of technical 
			expertise.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
			1. Operate CAE design and analysis software transferred
			from company's overseas shareholders for product 
			development.
			2. Operate commercially licensed CAE design and 
			analysis software for product development.
			3. Modify the above software as necessary to extend 
			capability and meet new requirements.
			4. Provide the guidance and technical advice to project
			engineers and designers for production projects.
			5. Conduct tests and other evaluations for prototype 
			and pre-production hardware.
			6. Recommend design changes based on results of 
			prototype and production hardware tests.
			7. Generate new concepts of improving CAE optical 
			design capabilities.
			8. Assist development engineers for the optical design
			and analysis needs for new product development.

BASIC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
			1. M.S. in optical, mechanical or electrical 
			engineering or physics.
			2. Familiar with or having good knowledge of optics, 
			photometry and lighting systems.
			3. Good computer operation and programming experience.
			4. Good communication and cooperation skills with all 
			levels of management, engineers,  as well as suppliers
			and customers.
