The papers submitted to this symposium will focus on
state-of-the-art research in various important issues related to emerging
technologies and standards on the coding and transmission of multimedia
information (such as audio, video, image, graphics and text) over wireless
networks. We solicit papers covering a variety of topics that include, but not
limited to the following subjects:
- Advanced coding algorithms for multimedia information
- Error resilient and error concealment
- Video quality assessment
- Rate control for wireless video
- Scalable and multiple description multimedia coding and
transmission
- Joint source-channel coding
- Efficient transport protocols for wireless networks
- Optimal resource allocation for energy-efficient wireless
multimedia
- Cross-layer wireless multimedia communication system design and
optimization
- Proxy-based systems for video transcoding
and content distribution
- Lightweight video encoding methods based on distributed source
coding
- Multimedia processing for wireless sensor networks
- Quality of Service issues
- Wireless multimedia traffic modeling
Only original and unpublished paper will be
considered to be presented in the symposium. Prospective authors are invited to
submit papers of no more than six (6) pages in double-column IEEE format
including results, figures and references at msrcmt.research.microsoft.com/WirelessCom2005 before March 31, 2005.
Prospective authors are expected to present their paper at the symposium.
The symposium will select the best
papers
and the authors of the papers will be recognized at the conference. Outstanding
papers on video communications will be invited to extend to full version for a
special issue of the Journal of Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing. The special issue
will be published in early 2007.
