CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN The Winter quarter has come to an end. This week, all the students will be busy preparing for their final examinations for the Winter Quarter. I wish all the students the best of luck on their exams. The following week is Spring Break. We will not have an issue of the ECE Newsletter that week.
-Prith Banerjee PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES/AWARDS/HONORS Professor Manijeh Razeghi received the R.F. Bunshah Award 2003 for Best Paper, "Passivation of Type II (InAs/GaSb) Superlattices for VLWIR FPA Applications," presented at the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) in San Diego, CA, April 28-May 2, 2003. The award will be presented at the ICMCTF 2004 Conference in San Diego. TRAVEL Jorge Nocedal is traveling to San Ramon, CA, March 12-16, to visit ChevronTexaco and give a seminar entitled, "Control of partial differential equations." Bruce Wessels is traveling to Atlanta, GA, March 15-16, to give an invited talk on spintronics at Georgia Tech. He will also travel to Montreal, Canada, March 20-25, for a meeting of the American Physical Society. He will present two papers entitled, "Dynamic response of epitaxial BaTiO3 ferroelectric films," and "Direct observation of ferromagnetic domain structure in IrMnAl."
Horace Yuen is traveling to Tokyo, Japan, March 9-18, to present the
paper entitled, "KCQ: A New Approach to Quantum Cryptography," at the
International Symposium on Quantum Info-Communications and Related
Quantum Nanodevices (in Tokyo) and to make a presentation at Japan
Science and Technology office.
