ECE Department Weekly Newsletter
January 5-9, 2004

CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and welcome you all to the Winter Quarter that starts Jan. 5.

I am delighted to inform everyone that Robert Dick, Assistant Professor of the ECE department, has just received notification from the National Science Foundation (NSF) that he is the recipient of an NSF CAREER award for 2004. The CAREER award is one of the most prestigious awards that a junior faculty can receive. Professor Dick's CAREER proposal, "Analysis, Design, and Synthesis of High-Performance, Low-Power, Real-Time Embedded Systems," will be funded at about $450,000 for five years from the Embedded Systems Program of NSF. This brings our department's NSF CAREER award winners this year to two (Ying Wu and Robert Dick) and the total number of NSF Career/NYI/PYI award winners in the department to nine. I had announced the award of Professor Ying Wu in an earlier newsletter.

Please join me in congratulating Professors Robert Dick and Ying Wu for their achievements this year.
