ECE Department Weekly Newsletter
January 19-23, 2004

CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

ECE is getting ready to hire new faculty in our department; they are expected to join us in Fall 2004. This year we will be actively looking for faculty in the areas of computer engineering (specifically computer architecture), systems (specifically in networks and communication), and in solid-state/nano-technology.

We have appointed the following search committees for these positions:

Computer Engineering: Alok Choudhary (Chair), Jorge Nocedal, Gokhan Memik, Seda Ogrenci Memik, Robert Dick, and Fabian Bustamante (Computer Science).

Systems: Mike Honig (Chair), Aggelos Katsaggelos, Randy Berry, C. C. Lee, Thrasos Pappas, Mary Phillips, and Peter Dinda (Computer Science).

Solid State/Nanotechnology: Abe Haddad (Chair), Manijeh Razeghi, Prem Kumar, Bruce Wessels, Alan Sahakian, Seng-Tiong Ho, and Mark Hersam (Materials Science and Engineering).

We have already received more than 200 applications for these positions, and the search committees have started to evaluate these applications. We will interview about 9-12 candidates during February and March and hope to make offers to our candidates during April and May.

I encourage all the faculty and students to attend the faculty candidate seminars so that you can provide feedback on these candidates.

-Prith Banerjee
