CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN The faculty interview season has started in full swing. Here is the current schedule of candidate visits. Feb. 10: Martin Schulz, post doc, Cornell (Computer Engineering) Feb. 12: Lin Xiao, Ph.D. Stanford (Systems) Feb. 18: Grace Xing, Ph.D. UC Santa Barbara (Solid state) Feb. 26: Donging Guo, Ph.D. Princeton (Systems) Feb. 27: Russ Joseph, Ph.D. Princeton (Computer Engineering) March 1: Dimitri Nikolopolous, Asst Prof., William-Mary (Computer Engineering) March 2: Peter Ye, Technical Staff, Bell Labs (Solid state) March 3: Elif Uysal, Ph.D. Stanford (Systems) March 4: Hooman Mohseni, Technical Staff, Sarnoff Labs, (Solid-state) March 5: Emilio Mendez, Professor, SUNY, (Solid state) All the faculty candidate seminars will be held at 11AM in the ECE conference room. I encourage all faculty and students to attend the seminars and provide feedback to us about their suitability in being possible faculty members in the ECE department.

Prem Kumar traveled to Ithaca, NY, February 10-11, and
presented the ECE Colloquium at Cornell Univ titled, "Fiber-Optic
Quantum Communication."
