CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN I want to thank all the faculty, staff, students, and visitors for making our first ever ECE EXPO event a success on Friday, Oct. 24. I want to thank the faculty members who presented talks that day:
Session 1: Solid-state and Photonics
Session 2: Systems
Session 3: Computer Engineering I was delighted to see such a nice participation in the various sessions. We had standing-room-only audiences in all three sessions. We all learned a lot during the talks about each other's research areas. I hope that this will lead to some joint research projects among the faculty. I was very happy that all the faculty kept their talks to the allotted five minutes so we could keep the day's program on schedule. The talk by our ECE Advisory Board member on "IP Stratagies for Startup Companies" was also very well received by the audience. I want to express my appreciation to the graduate students for doing an outstanding job in the poster sessions. All the posters looked very professional. We will announce winners of the best posters in each of three sessions sometime next week, once I collect the results from the three sets of judges. In addition to our own faculty and students, we had lots of visitors from companies, other McCormick departments, and various other units from Northwestern such as the ITEC office, Tech Transfer Office, and McCormick. I want to thank Nancy Singer and Deneen Marie Bryce for organizing the entire event--specifically, the program schedule, the poster sessions, arranging the food, drinks and refreshments, and the photographer. Thank you all for making the ECE EXPO a success.
