CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN I want to welcome all the faculty and students to the Spring Quarter after a week-long Spring Break. I know everyone is really excited about the classes and labs in the new quarter. The faculty interviewing season has ended so we will not have as many seminars this quarter. We do have a visitor from IBM, Dr. Daniel Oblinger, who will be visiting us from IBM TJ Watson Research Center on Friday, April 4. The purpose of his visit is to meet with graduate students and faculty in areas of computer engineering and electrical engineering that are relevant to IBM. He will meet all interested Ph.D. students over a pizza luncheon at 12 noon after his seminar at 11AM. I would like to bring your attention to a one-day Computational Science and Engineering Symposium that is being organized by Prof. Jorge Nocedal on Thursday, April 3, at the Norris Center. More than 100 researchers from Northwestern, Argonne National Lab, and other universities will attend this one-day symposium. I encourage faculty and graduate students to attend this event.
