CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN This week I am delighted to announce the ten Motorola Undergraduate Research proposals that will be funded in the Winter'04 and Spring'04 quarters. Congratulations to these students and best wishes for some intriguing research. I also want to thank these faculty members for undertaking these projects without any matching grant this year. Each student will be asked to present their research results in the first week of June at Motorola Headquarters in Schaumburg in front of the Motorola engineers. Next week is exam week so I want to wish all our students good luck on their exams and a very happy and enjoyable holiday break.

Thursday, December 11, 2003: Ph.D. Qualifying Examination - 3:00 p.m. TRAVEL Abe Haddad is traveling to Maui, December 7-15, to attend and present a paper at the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. Paper title: C. Schwartz and A. H. Haddad, "Control of Jump Linear Systems having Semi-Markov Sojourn Times." He will also attend the Board of Directors meeting of the AACC and other related meetings, as well as a meeting of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control Editorial Board.
