CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

This week we continue to have a number of M.S. and Ph.D. final examinations to make the deadline for June graduation. Details are listed below.

Last week we had our annual ECE Forum organized by our undergraduate IEEE student officers. We appreciate the many useful suggestions for ECE given by our students.

TRAVEL

Professor Prith Banerjee is traveling to San Jose, CA, May 5-7, for consulting for AccelChip.

Professor Abe Haddad is traveling to Anchorage, Alaska, May 3-13,to:
Attend and present (with co-authors) 2 papers at the 2002 American Control Conference (ACC);
Attend meetings of the Transactions Editorial Board and Board of Governors of the IEEE Control Systems Society;
Attend meetings of the 2003 and 2004 ACC Operating Committees;
Attend meetings of the ACC Steering Committee and American Automatic Control Council (AACC) Board of Directors; and
Participate in an NSF sponsored workshop on control.

Professor Prem Kumar traveled to Washington, DC, April 30-May 2, to attend a program review at the Office of Naval Research and visit the Lab of Telecommunication Science in the Army Research Lab in Adelthi, MD.

Professor Jorge Nocedal traveled to Minneapolis MN, April 28-30, to attend the IMA Workshop on Data Assimilation in the Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences.
