We are very proud of Prof. Valerie Taylor who received the Women in Leadership Pathbreaker Award on February 2, 2002. This award is given to a Northwestern faculty or staff member who has demonstrated numerous accomplishments in the area of leadership, recognizes unmet social, organizational, or community needs and takes initiatives to develop solutions. Prof. Taylor also received an ACM Service Award for serving as General Co-Chair of the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Symposium 2001 (held in Houston, Texas, Oct. 18-20, 2001). Congratulations!
We were just informed that our graduate alumnus, Prof. Peter C. Nelson (received his PhD with Prof. Henschen in 1988), was appointed as the first Head of the Computer Science Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago this past fall semester.
A very productive visit was made on Feb. 7, 2002, by several faculty members from the McCormick School to Ford Research Laboratory. The ECE faculty members involved, besides myself, were Randy Freeman and Chi-Haur Wu.
This week we have two prospective faculty seminars on Monday and Friday at 4:00. Full details available below. Please make every effort to attend.
