I wish to welcome our students back from Spring break and to the beginning of the Spring quarter. We hope that you all had happy and joyous holidays.
The Spring quarter starts on Tuesday, April 2, but with a twist: THE MONDAY CLASS SCHEDULE WILL BE FOLLOWED THAT FIRST TUESDAY.
There is an ECE faculty meeting on Thursday, April 4, at noon. Please make every effort to attend as the main agenda item is faculty offers in computer engineering.
Our faculty recruiting program continues in the Spring with visits by three candidates: Jiang Hu from the University of Minnesota in the VLSI area is visiting us on Monday, April 1; David Janes from Purdue University in the solid-state area is visiting us on Tuesday, April 2; Suhas Diggavi from AT&T Laboratories in the networks area is visiting us on Friday, April 5. Please make every attempt to attend the seminars. Faculty are urged to get their students to attend as well.
Friday, April 5, from 4-6, the Dean is hosting a reception honoring the Alumni Awards recipients this year. For further information contact Judy Hicks at <j-hicks@northwestern.edu>.

Professor Alok Choudhary traveled to Madrid, Spain, March 18-22, 2002 to give a seminar at Dto De Informatica (University).
Professor Manijeh Razeghi traveled to Richmond, VA, March 10-12, to give an invited Talk, "AlInGaN/AlInGaN UV LED Grown by Low-Pressure MOCVD," at the 7th Wide Bandgap III-Nitride Workshop.
Professor Razeghi also gave an invited Talk, "Artificial Atoms: Solution for Infrared Multicolor Focal Plane Arrays," at the Quantum IR Structures Session, American Physical Society Meeting, Indianapolis, IN, on March 18, 2002.
