CSRL NEWS

REALPLAYER 8 INSTALLED

RealPlayer version 8 has been installed on the SPARC-based Solaris boxes. This unsupported program plays a variety of audio formats, including all Real formats, MP3, WAV, Sun AU, SGI AIFF, and MIDI. It also displays several graphics format files such as GIF, JPG, Shockwave Flash, VIV/VIVO, and others.

To start it, execute the "realplay" command. To set it up as a netscape plug-in to automatically handle the above formats, start realplay and then go to "Help->Mime Type/Plugin Install...".

ACCOUNTS TO BE REMOVED OVER THE SUMMER

Users of ECE accounts that are due to be removed during the summer months (June, July, August) have been notified via email of their pending removal. If you have been *notified* and know that you will be back after the summer, notify <root@ece.northwestern.edu> ASAP.

WILKINSON LAB WORKSTATIONS

This summer, the Wilkinson lab will see two changes. 1) The 270MHz Sun Ultra 5's will be replaced with Sun Blade 100 workstations, thanks to a generous 3-for-2 matching grant from Sun Microsystems. 2) We will introduce 16 new Microsoft-donated PCs running Windows 2000 Pro and installed with Visual Studio 6, Visio 2000 Technical, Project 2000, Office 2000, and the NUnet internet applications, as well as Matlab and SSH2 client software.

PLEASE RETURN KEYS

A reminder to graduating students: before you leave Northwestern, please remember to return your Wilkinson lab keys to room M334 in order to receive your $25 deposit.
