CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

I had mentioned in the earlier newsletter that we made four offers for faculty positions in our ECE department for Fall 2001 in the areas of computer architecture, VLSI design, networking, and signal and image processing.

I am pleased to announce that Ying Wu has accepted our offer for a faculty position as an Assistant Professor starting September 1, 2001. Ying is expected to receive his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in July 2001 under his advisor, Prof. Thomas Huang. His research interests are in signal and image processing. He had visited us and given a seminar on March 14 on "Capturing and Recognizing Human Motion in Video Sequences."

Please join me in welcoming Ying Wu to our department.

-Prith Banerjee
Chairman
