In this newsletter I would like to inform everyone of our hiring plans for new faculty for next year. We have been given the authorization to search for five faculty positions this year in our department to replace the faculty who have resigned and retired from our department. This will greatly increase the number of courses that we can offer to our undergraduate and graduate students.
While outstanding candidates in all areas of electrical and computer engineering will be considered, we have particular needs in the areas of nano-technology, networks and communications, signal and image processing, VLSI design and CAD, and computer architecture. We have placed some ads for the positions in leading IEEE and CS magazines. We encourage our faculty to contact potential candidates in other schools.
We expect to receive all the resumes by Feb. 1, 2001, invite candidates for interviews during February and March, and make offers to the best candidates by April 1, 2001. It is hoped that these five candidates will be able to start their appointments on Sept. 1, 2001. We have already interviewed three candidates this quarter.
Please try to attend the candidate seminars.
