In my earlier columns I had mentioned that we were looking for three new faculty in the areas of (1) Photonics, (2) Networks and Communication, and (3) VLSI CAD. We had made four offers: one in photonics, two in networks, and one in VLSI CAD.
I am delighted to inform everyone that one of the faculty candidates in the networks area, RANDALL BERRY, accepted our offer this week. The other candidate has decided not to take our offer. Earlier, we had informed you that Yehea Ismail accepted our offer in the VLSI area. Our photonics area search is still open.
Randy Berry is expected to receive his Ph.D. degree from MIT under advisor Prof. Bob Gallagher. His research interests are in wireless communication, data networking, and information theory. He has published one journal paper and seven conference papers so far in these areas. He presented a seminar on "Power and Delay Tradeoffs in Wireless Networks" when he visited us in February.
Randy will join us on September 1, 2000, and will teach courses in the communications and networking areas. Please join me in welcoming our new faculty member Randy Berry to our department.
