CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

It is my pleasure to inform you that Alan Sahakian has been elected as a McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence for the next three years. This recognition is richly deserved and only two faculty members from the McCormick School have been recognized this year with this honor.

To be recognized for this award, a faculty member not only has to have excellent CTEC scores consistently in all the courses taught over the past several years, but also has to get letters of reference from five current students and five of our alumni. They all wrote extremely strong letters in Alan's support.

Not only is Alan an excellent teacher in the classroom, but his services to the department go towards curricular development, lab development, and student advising far beyond what most faculty members do. It is in this spirit that Alan has agreed to develop and teach the newly proposed ECE B02 course "Introduction to Electrical Engineering," in a pilot version next year.

This award is an appropriate recognition of these outstanding teaching accomplishments. Please join me in congratulating Alan for his excellent services to the ECE and Biomed departments.

Chairman
