CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

In this issue I would like to inform everyone about some activities in the area of faculty recruiting. One of the ten action plans for our department is to hire two faculty members per year for the next five years. This year we are looking for two new faculty in the areas of signal processing, networking, and optical systems to join our department in Fall 1999.

In response to our ads, we received nearly 200 faculty applications. Our Faculty Recruiting Committee has identified several candidates for interviews. Between Feb. 15 and March 30, several candidates will be visiting our department for interviews. Please try to attend their seminars. The seminar announcements will be posted in the ECE Newsletter in future weeks. It will be an opportunity to hear about some exciting research that is being done in other universities and companies.

Two of these candidates are expected to join our department in Fall 1999. These new faculty will bring their expertise to teaching some exciting courses in the above fields in our department. We will keep you posted on our recruitment efforts.

Chairman
