CHAIRMAN'S COLUMN

In the last newsletter, I had mentioned that the ECE department will be interviewing several candidates for faculty positions starting Fall 1999. The first set of candidates will be visiting us this week.

Dr. Scott Acton (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin, currently Associate Professor, Oklahoma State University) is a candidate in the area of digital signal processing and will visit us Wednesday, Feb. 17. He will present a seminar entitled, "Diffusion-Based Image and Video Processing" (see details in Seminar Announcements below).

Dr. Nabeel Riza (Ph.D. Caltech, currently Associate Professor, University of Central Florida) is a candidate in the area of photonics and optics, and will visit us Thursday, Feb. 18. He will present a seminar entitled, "Photonic Innovations: A High Impact Multidisciplinary Approach for Advanced Sensing, Testing, Computing, and Communication Systems" (see details in Seminar Announcements below).

I would like to invite all students and faculty to attend these seminars on state-of-the-art research results in these fields. They will be meeting with our department's graduate students in these fields. Please contact Nancy Singer for more information regarding their meeting schedule.
