This is the last week of the Fall quarter. Students will be preparing for final exams and faculty will be busy grading exams. I wish everyone the best of luck in their exams.
On Thursday, Dec. 9 of this week, the faculty will take the ECE department staff for a Holiday Luncheon at the Allen Center to show our appreciation to the staff who really help run the department all year round.
I would like to remind people that this is the last newsletter of the quarter (also that of the year). The university will be closed Dec. 30 to Jan. 3 in preparation for Y2K.
Classes will resume on Wednesday Jan. 5. We will resume our newsletter the week of Jan. 10.

Randy Freeman is traveling to Phoenix, Arizona, December 5-10, to attend the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control. He will present a full-day workshop entitled "Constructive Nonlinear Control Design" and attend the operating committee meeting for the 2000 American Control Conference.
Abe Haddad is traveling to Phoenix, AZ, December 6-10, to attend the 1999 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC99). He is also attending the meeting of the AACC Board and related meetings (as an officer).
Mike Honig is traveling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, December 3-12 to attend the IEEE Global Conference on Communications (Globecom `99) as a participant and co-author of the paper, "Forward Link Performance of Satellite DS-CDMA with Interference Suppression and One-Step Power Control" (with W. Xiao).
Seng-Tiong Ho traveled to Singapore, November 29-December 3, to chair an International Conference on "Photonics Technology into the 21st Century" organized by The International Society for Optical Engineering.
Prem Kumar traveled to Boston, MA, November 30-December 1 to give a colloquium at MIT, hosted by the MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics
