During the past two months we interviewed ten faculty candidates in the areas of signal and image processing, networking and communication, and optics. We had received more than 200 applications for the two positions that we had in the department. The ECE faculty, in a meeting on March 31, unanimously voted that offers be made to two of the candidates. (Their names cannot be made public at this time, but both of them are excellent candidates. The names will be made public once they accept our offer). The Dean of the McCormick School is reviewing these cases and is in the process of making offers to both the candidates around April 15. We hope that our students will have the opportunity to take classes from these two new faculty members this fall.
I would like to thank all the faculty members who met with these ten candidates and attended their seminars, and the Recruiting Committee for meeting multiple times before coming to a consensus and recommending these two offers.
Above all, I wish to thank my assistant Nancy Singer for single-handedly managing the files on 200 candidates, entering the data of each candidate on the computer database, getting various letters of reference on each candidate, managing the complex task of making the travel arrangements, hotel arrangements, restaurant reservations, faculty meeting schedules, having coffee and snacks available during every seminar, and above all keeping her cool during the entire interviewing process, and making the process appear so smooth. Please join me in thanking Nancy for a job truly well done.
