Printing and Exporting Figures with MATLAB

Creating and Applying a Copy Template

MATLAB enables you to create, apply, and save a figure copy template. This template can be applied to any figure on a per-figure basis, but affects only exporting to the clipboard, not a figure exported to file.

  1. Select Preferences from the File menu. This invokes the Preferences dialog box.
  2. In the left pane of the dialog box, select Figure Copy Template.
  3. Make changes to any of the settings available. For example, click the PowerPoint button to apply our recommended settings for a figure you will use in a PowerPoint presentation. See "About the Settings," below.
  4. Click Apply if you want to apply the settings in the template to your figure. These changes are reflected in your displayed figure.
  5. Click Restore Figure if you want to remove the template settings.
  6. Click OK to save the template with the settings you have chosen, or Cancel to leave the template the way it was.
  1. If you click OK, the next time you open Figure Copy Template Preferences, the settings will be as you left them.

About the Settings

Think of the copy template as a convenient method for saving your preferred settings in one place. Experiment with applying the settings to an open figure until you are satisfied with the way it looks. Then, each time you want to export a figure to the clipboard, you can open and apply the template.

The template includes two buttons, Word and PowerPoint that add our recommended settings for Word or PowerPoint to your template. However, you are not bound to these settings. Changing the template is an additive process. For example, you can click the PowerPoint button, and then adjust the line size or color to your own preferences.

At any time, if you want to return the template to its MATLAB factory default settings, click the Restore Defaults button.
