IP Address Request Form
If you wish to connect a computer to the department network, you must have an IP address. These are distributed either as static IP addresses or dynamically-assigned ones. A static IP address is assigned to desktop workstations and PCs; machines which will stay on the network indefinitely. To obtain a static IP address, complete the form on this page.
A dynamic address address is assigned for laptops and other transient network devices. This is done via DHCP. The department's DHCP server will only grant an IP address to machines to recognizes. This is a security measure. If you'd like to register your computer with the CFS DHCP server, then you must email root your machine's MAC/Ethernet address. Once the CFS has registered your machine, you will be notified via email and then may begin using the network.
A static IP number should be assigned by the end of the next business day.
If your location requires the activation of a network jack, then--at the time of this writing--the fee for IT TNS to do the work is $230. It typically takes two weeks to complete the installation. It is in your best interest to make this request as soon after ordering the equipment as possible. Contact the CFS for details if you need help.
