Bruce W. Wessels is the Walter P. Murphy Professor
of Materials Science and Engineering and Electrical and Computer
Engineering at Northwestern University. He has been a member of
the Northwestern faculty since 1977. Dr. Wessels is recognized for
his research on electronic and photonic materials. He served as
president of the professional engineering society for materials,
TMS (The Minerals, Materials and Metals Society) and serves on the
editorial board and section editor of the Journal of Electronic
Materials. He is a fellow of the American Physical
Society and ASMI, and is a member of the OSA,
MRS, TMS, and Electrochemical Society. Wessels is the author of
230 articles and co-editor of five books. He has been awarded thirteen
patents. Wessels received his BS in metallurgy and materials science
from the University of Pennsylvania, followed by the receipt of
the Ph.D. in materials science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He was a member of the technical staff of the General Electric Research
and Development Center prior to joining Northwestern University.
Research Interests
Opto-electronic integrated circuits. Compound semiconductors, electro-optic
thin films and devices, MOCVD processing of ceramic superconductors
and ferroelectrics.
