Alan V. Sahakian is a Professor in the Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering and in the Department of
Biomedical Engineering. He joined the ECE department in 1984. Since
1985, he has been a member of the Associate Professional Staff,
Department of Medicine, Evanston Hospital. He has authored about
150 publications and has advised 35 graduate students. Dr. Sahakian
is a Fellow of the Searle Center for Teaching Excellence. He is
the recipient of the Charles Deering McCormick Chaired Professorship
in Teaching Excellence and has been named on the Associated Student
Government Faculty Honor Roll for 1996, 1997, and 2002. He received
the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science Advisor
of the Year Award in 1995-96 and held the Bette and Neison Harris
Chaired Professorship in Teaching Excellence from 1993-95. Alan
received his B.S. in Applied Science and in Physics from the University
of Wisconsin-Parkside in 1976, and his M.S.E.E. in 1979 and his
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (with a minor in Computer Science)
in 1984 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research sponsors
include DARPA, NSF, Medtronic, Inc., and the Dr. Scholl Foundation.
Research Interests
Instrumentation, signal and image processing
for medical and aerospace applications. Automatic detection and
treatment of the atrial cardiac arrhythmias by implanted devices.
