Carl R. Kannewurf is
an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at Northwestern University. He joined the ECE department
in 1963. Prior to that appointment, he was a postdoctoral fellow in
the Physics Department and the Materials Research Center at Northwestern.
He has authored with his research students and collaborators over
250 publications devoted primarily to the electrical, thermal, and
optical properties of electronic materials and devices. He has supervised
25 Ph.D. students and 32 M.S. candidates. Recently he was the recipient
of both the IEEE Life Senior Membership for years of service, and
the IEEE Third Millennium Medal. He received the following degrees
in Physics: B.A., Lake Forest College, 1953; M.S., University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign, 1954; and the Ph.D., Northwestern University,
1960.
Research Interests
Recent emphasis has focused on transparent conducting oxides, thermoelectric
refrigeration materials, high Tc superconductors and organic materials
and devices. Many programs in these areas have been collaborative
efforts with other Departments and Centers at both Northwestern
and other Universities.
