MATLAB Installation Guide for Unix

Running MATLAB on a Heterogeneous Network

You can run MATLAB and other MathWorks products on a heterogeneous network. Any supported platform can act as a license server and serve clients on any supported platform.

For example, if you have a network with two SPARC workstations, an Alpha workstation, and an HP 9000, you can select any of your computers as the license server for all four computers. UNIX servers can serve PC clients.

To implement a heterogeneous licensing configuration, perform this procedure:

  1. Select one of the systems to be the license server.
  2. Request a License File from The MathWorks, specifying the license server's host ID.
  3. Create a License File from the license e-mail sent to you by The MathWorks. (For more information, see Creating a License File.)
  4. Put the License File in your MATLAB root directory and make sure the MATLAB root directory is available (mounted) on all workstations.
  5. Start the license manager on the license server.
