INFRASTRUCTURE POLICY

Definition

The ECE Computing Facilities Committee on April 8th, 2005 formally clarified the definition of infrastructure hosts as those servers and ancillary equipment owned and operated by the CFS. All other equipment, including faculty-owned server-grade computers fall outside of this department-wide definition, and, as such, all fiscal responsibility lies with the owners of such equipment.

UPS

Due to the regularity of power failures, brown outs, and electrical surges, the CFS highly recommends that a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) be used to protect all server-class computers. Interested faculty should consult with the CFS at the time of computer purchase in order to calculate the cost and size of the accompanying UPS. It should be noted that UPS batteries have a useful life of approximately 2 years, after which they will need to be replaced.
