Research Interests:

My broad research interests are in the areas of Mobile Data Management and Moving Objects Databases (MOD); Data Management in Sensor Networks; and Reactive Behavior in Dynamic and Distributed Environments.

More specifically, I have worked on developing efficient algorithms for processing continuous spatio-temporal queries in MOD settings. I have also applied Computational Geometry techniques for devising efficient algorithms for spatio-temporal queries in the presence of uncertainty for the location-in-time information of the moving objects. Part of the work was implemented in the DOMINO project, when I was a member of the DBMC lab at the UIC, directed by my PhD thesis advisor, Prof. Ouri Wolfson.

Currently, I am affiliated with the DBMS laboratory at the Dept. of EECS at Northwestern University, directed by Prof. Peter Scheuermann. My work is focused on:

1. The OMCAT project (Optimal Maintenance of Continuous queries’ Answers to Trajectories) in MOD settings. The purpose of the project is to combine the values of various context dimensions for the purpose of efficient (re)evaluation of continuous queries.

- PhD student: Mr. Hui Ding.

2.   The SNSim project in Sensor Network settings. The simulator enables a visualization of the status of the network and the main goal of the project is to develop efficient algorithms that will combine query processing with routing, subject to optimizing the lifetime of the nodes and, consequently, the overall network.

- PhD student: Mr. Oliviu Ghica.

3.   The (ECA)2 project (Evolving and Context-Aware Event-Condition-Action). The goal of the project is development of novel paradigm for specifying and managing the reactive behavior of the systems that work in dynamic distributed environments.

Publications:

NOTE:  Dear visitor. I honestly don’t (and, even more honestly, I doubt I ever will) understand that whole “copyright” ball-game when it comes to the publications presenting research materials. I tend to highly agree with Jeff Erickson (despite the modest claim that it is outdated, the page still has some neat links to the Computational Geometry sites – nice!!!) in his view on the copyright. Most of my publications are accessible through the DBLP – an excellent source of bibliographic materials (albeit, sometimes not 100% complete), for which credit must be given to Michael Ley. In case you have any problems obtaining an electronic version of some of my publications, please drop me a line and I will respond promptly…
